You know, I can see someone reaching for a pun with “‘word’ of difference” – referencing the fact that the word “marriage” is a trigger, whereas “civil union” not so much, even if it comes with the same legal rights, but the “od” just breaks the clever.
Good point, Saro. That would have been a clever pun, but I agree with you it would seem the writer was not a clever person.
